"I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented."
--Elie Wiesel, author, in his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech
I'm a writer.
I'm a reader.
I'm an optimist and an activist.
You can read my bio here , or see my personal blog here .
I have a BS in Political Science and a BA in History from Florida State University. I'm very involved in human rights, so that's mostly what you'll find here. But I try to share some fun stuff as well.
If you're offended by profanity, liberal sensibilities, rampant idealism or flagrant self-indulgence, just save yourself the trouble and run far, far away.

I can’t understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I’m frightened of the old ones.
Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.
Live simply so others may simply live.
Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.
Indifference, to me, is the epitome of evil.
When I say it’s you I like, I’m talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, peace that rises triumphant over war, and justice that proves more powerful than greed.
I call people rich when they are able to meet the requirements of their imagination.
Wherever you go, go with all your heart.
Love is the beauty of the soul.
Courage is a kind of salvation.
If something is difficult for you to accomplish, do not then think it impossible for any human being; rather, if it is humanly possible and corresponds to human nature, know that it is attainable by you as well.
Right is right, even if everyone is against it, and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it.
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
Ignorant men don’t know what good they hold in their hands until they’ve flung it away.
If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.
