The power and decree of photography. Mind blowing!
Not to mention, Afghan ladies.
afghan girl (1985)
I saw
Oryx’s piercing irises
sea-green daggers
turntables looping hardship
her name
The Afghan Girl
she’s just eyes anyway
just
explosive eyes
shedding nuclear tears
screaming anthrax griefs
- hang her father’s eyes -
but she’s just
harmless eyes
but that’s part of the problem
- what are her eyes asking me for? -
her name
Sharbat Gula
Rose Sherbet
effervescent maiden blushes and fairies and peaces
that can’t live among dirt and war
a rose without a mother
a rose hopeless to dust
a rose is
a rose is
a rose is
a rose is
Sharbat Gula
not a girl
just thirteen-year-old
timid
sea-green eyes.
What did they
want with me?

Beautiful, both the photo and the poem. :)
